Accessibility Guidelines for UI/UX Designers

Capstone Project

This project explores the challenges UI/UX designers face in implementing accessibility in their designs due to gaps in available guidelines and resources. Through research and interviews, it identifies barriers to accessibility and offers suggestions to improve guidelines, promoting more inclusive and usable design for all users.

Alternative Mode Guidelines

Graduate Research Assistant

This project addresses the challenges mobile app designers face in creating adaptive UI modes like dark and high-contrast modes due to the lack of simplified guidelines. It proposes user-friendly guidelines developed through previous research and participant feedback, supplemented with practical examples. The guidelines will be tested through a design study with app designers and a feedback study involving users with and without vision impairments. The project aims to provide resources that ensure accessible and consistent app design for diverse user needs.

Cultural Accessibility Guidelines : Typography

Graduate Research Assistant

This project explores the intersection of cultural sensitivity and accessibility in digital design, focusing on challenges faced by non-Western designers using Western-centric guidelines like WCAG. Through studies with non-Western designers, it highlights misalignments between cultural preferences and accessibility standards, particularly in typography. The proposed work develops and evaluates Culturally Sensitive Accessibility Guidelines for Typography (CSAGfT) to support non-Western designers in creating accessible, culturally sensitive designs. This initiative aims to pave the way for broader culturally inclusive accessibility guidelines.
